Although a lot of great stuff has happened this week, there have been some sobering things as well. Over the weekend, Guatemala had some devastating landslides (derrumbes). Many people were killed, injured, or trapped, and there are several places where the roads are still impassable.
Guatemala is in a State of Emergency and all volunteers are on “Standfast,” which means no one can leave his/her current location. Trainees are allowed to continue training, but several activities have been changed or canceled.
Don’t worry about us (any more than you already are), we have a great staff who is monitoring all conditions and reacting quickly to all new information. I’ll keep you updated as well!
