This week I went with Candida to see Mary Poppins at the Kennedy Center before we both leave the country! She leaves in less than a week and today marks one month until my staging (orientation) in DC. Then, on August 11th, I will fly with about 33 other Peace Corps Trainees to Guatemala. CRAZY!
Anyway, Mary Poppins was amazing – magical, as Candida said – and we bought Silly Bandz at the gift shop! I found out about this craze last weekend from my nephew, Logan. He handed me one and said, “You can have it.” I thanked him then asked what the heck it was. He explained that it was a band shaped like a dog and I could wear it on my wrist. I spent all last week playing with it at work and vowing to buy more. Then, when I saw Dida at the show, she had some on her wrist and said they had them at the gift shop. You know we went down during intermission and I got two packages!!
It hasn’t been ALL musicals and Silly Bandz. I have had to start the packing process to bring all of my stuff to my brother’s house in NY. I took one trip last weekend and will hopefully only need one more to completely move out of my apartment. Who knew I could fill 3 large boxes with board games and about 5 with movies?!?
I’ve also had to start looking at that daunting packing list. Gulp. I’ve been lucky enough to have a volunteer in-country help me out with a customized list (thank you!!), but it is still pretty overwhelming for a non-shopper. I found a hiking pack on the REI outlet site and it has more zippers and compartments than I have dvds!
But, let me not get ahead of myself. I have a month to have more fun, accumulate more Silly Bandz and stress about packing. Maybe a spoonful of sugar will help…
